Influenza Viruses
Influenza (Flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by RNA viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae (influenza viruses). Influenza viruses are classified to types A, B and C. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent seasonal flu is by getting a seasonal flu vaccination each year. Some people, such as older people, young children, pregnant women and people with certain health conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease) are at high risk for serious flu complications as pneumonia (which can be fatal), bronchitis, and sinus and ear infections. The flu can make chronic health problems worse.
For Diagnosis of H1N1 Flu Cases:
A confirmatory test diagnoses the H1N1 case using the real time PCR technique. The test is sensitive and specific to H1N1 strain. The cost of the test is 450 L.E.
The run out time of the confirmatory test is 24 hours.
