Detection of a Panel of Autoantibodies to Extractable Nuclear Antigen (ENA)
Recombinant and native nuclear protein including (Sm, RNP, SS-A, centromere, Scl-70, Jo-1, histones and poly dt) are coated as a discrete lines on a nitrocellulose strip.
Specific auto antibodies, if present in the serum, will bind to the specific antigen of ENA on the strip and then can be visualized as a clear band
The identification of autoantibodies to ENA in one setting can offer a great help in differentiating several systemic rheumatic disease (e.g. mixed connective tissue disorder, S-Jogren, SLE, scleroderma, etc..) and also minimize the cost of investigations when performed as single test.
